Tax ROI · Optimize the present

Save 1 dong of tax. Or pay 100 in penalties?

Professional companies do not start by paying less tax. They start by paying it correctly and in full, and by leaving no room for penalties.

A real case

VND 453 million in tax. VND 119.8 billion in fines.

In May 2025, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported that the management board of the Conic Dong Nam A apartment complex (Ho Chi Minh City) was fined VND 119.8 billion. The reason: it collected management fees and water charges from residents without issuing invoices.

Yet the amount found to be tax evasion was only about VND 453 million. Most of the fine did not come from the missing tax but from a very basic obligation that was skipped: issuing an invoice for every collection.

The lesson for every business: the biggest risk is rarely how much tax you pay, but small things done wrong, over and over, for years.

Redefining "optimization"

Tax optimization is the third floor, not the first

  1. Floor 1

    Correct

    No penalties

Invoices, returns and payments made on time, at the right rate, matching what really happened.

  2. Floor 2

    Complete

    No money lost needlessly

Every cost has the invoice, contract and payment record it needs to be deductible.

  3. Floor 3

    Optimized

    Lasting savings

Only once correct and complete do tax incentives, cost structure, pay and related-party pricing come in.

Skipping the first two floors to go straight to optimization is the fastest way to turn 1 dong saved into 100 in penalties.

15-point self-check

How many gaps does your business have?

Choose "Done" for the points you are sure of. If unsure, choose "Not sure" or leave it blank.

Invoicing and filing

Invoicing and filing

  1. 1.Invoices are issued at the right time, even before the money is collected.

  2. 2.No collection "forgets" its invoice (deposits, service fees, pass-through charges…).

  3. 3.VAT and PIT returns are filed on time every period.

  4. 4.Return figures match the books and the e-invoices on the tax system.

  5. 5.Suppliers' tax code status is checked before large payments.

Deductible costs

Deductible costs

  1. 6.Every cost has a valid invoice with the company's correct name and tax code.

  2. 7.Every payment of VND 5 million or more goes through a bank.

  3. 8.Contracts, delivery or acceptance records are attached.

  4. 9.Salaries have matching labor contracts, payroll and payment records.

  5. 10.You know which costs are capped (interest, benefits, car depreciation…).

Related parties and special obligations

Related parties and special obligations

  1. 11.All related parties are identified (parent, sister companies, relatives).

  2. 12.Related-party transactions are declared on the right appendix at finalization.

  3. 13.Payments abroad include foreign contractor tax.

  4. 14.No loans between the company and its owner or relatives without paperwork.

  5. 15.Someone experienced reviews the tax reports before filing.

The most-penalized mistakes

Penalties usually come from very familiar things

Late invoicing

Issued after delivery, completion of the service or collection.

Late filing and payment

Every late day adds interest, on top of administrative fines.

Disallowed costs

Missing invoices, missing payment records or over the cap.

Related-party transactions

Not declared, or priced out of line with the market.

Missed contractor tax

Paying foreign vendors (software, ads, services) without withholding tax.

Wrong rate or wrong scope

The wrong VAT rate, or misjudging what is taxable.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is tax optimization just "tax dodging"?

No. Kaizen only optimizes once you pay tax correctly and in full, and every option rests on current law with a clear basis.

Do small businesses need this?

Yes. Mistakes like late invoicing or undocumented costs happen at every size, and small companies usually have fewer people checking.

Does Kaizen replace our current accounting team?

Not necessarily. Kaizen works alongside your in-house team or current accounting provider, then hands over the processes for them to keep running.

Can the 15-point self-check replace a review?

No. It gives you a quick look at your base. Kaizen's review checks every point against your real records.

Does Kaizen guarantee a savings amount?

Kaizen gives no number before seeing your records. Every option comes with its legal basis and an estimated impact for management to weigh.

How is the fee set?

It is quoted on scope: transaction volume, how many points need fixing and how far you want to optimize. Kaizen quotes after the first conversation.
